Drama Classwork - Othello Lesson 2
Lesson objectives:
I will have learn how to highlight the theme of difference in Othello using the drama skills of narration and synchronized movements.
According to Shakespeares' play Othello, Othello was a general of the army (this was a long time ago in terms of date), and he had been a hero to the Venice society, he had taken on many larger, stronger and tougher army than his, but had overcome all of them. He brought back victory.
But when he was trying to be social, he was not accepted despite he had victorious fights and clashes with other countries and armies. He was not accepted, because he was a black man (Not at all am I trying to be racist). In the Venice society, he was treated differently because of the difference of his skin color.
Our Drama teacher explained and told us that it is good to be different. If we were no different, we would all have the same color, same eyes, same appearance, same hobbies, same IQ etc. A good example is International Schools, students have different ethnic backgrounds, different cultural religions, come from different countries, different genders etc.
If we were all the same, we would all wake up at the same time, all play football at the same time, would go have a shower at the same time. And in fact, if we were all the same, there would be no difference. The consequence we might need to face if we were all the same were we would all just stand there and do nothing.
